Clerk and Recorder News Release

[Colorado Springs, Colo. – October 11, 2024] The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office mailed nearly 473,000 ballots to all eligible, active registered voters for the November 5, 2024, General Election. Please note, the U.S. Postal Service will not have residential mail delivery on Monday, October 14, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. El Paso County ballots should arrive in voters’ mailboxes by Monday, October 21.

“This is an important step in ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in our upcoming November General Election,” said Clerk Steve Schleiker. “We encourage residents to watch for their ballots in the mail and make a plan to vote early, whether by returning their ballot through the mail, at one of our 41 secure ballot drop boxes, or voting in person at one of our 38 voter service polling centers. Our office is dedicated to providing a smooth, accessible, and secure election process for all voters.”

The 2024 General Election ballot content will contain contests for presidential, federal, state and local candidates, 14 statewide measures and 12 local measures or issues. The content of a voter’s individual ballot is dependent on the precinct where they reside. Voters are urged to research these items in advance utilizing the Colorado General Assembly Ballot Information Booklet (Blue Book) and the El Paso County TABOR Notice mailed earlier this month. Once an informed decision has been made, voters are encouraged to vote and return their ballot early.

Voters have many convenient options for returning their voted ballot in a safe and secure manner. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office has 41 secure 24/7 ballot drop-box locations throughout the county. 99% of the county’s population lives within a fifteen-minute drive of one of these locations. Voters also may return their ballot through the U.S. Postal Service. However, voters should affix $0.73 postage when returning their ballot via the United States Postal Service (USPS). The Clerk’s Office recommends that voters do not return their voted ballot by mail after October 28. All voted ballots must be returned to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 5, to be counted. Postmarked ballots received after the deadline cannot be counted.

Any voter needing a replacement ballot, or other in-person services may visit the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at the Citizens Service Center at 1675 West Garden of the Gods Road. Five additional Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs) will open October 21, with a total of 38 VSPCs opening in phases by Election Day.
