The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is excited to announce the launch of a new online tool, Ballot Verifier. This platform increases transparency and public trust in the county’s election process, allowing citizens to view and audit election results from anywhere.
Through a partnership with civic technology company Civera, the Ballot Verifier allows voters to view how ballot images are interpreted and verified, providing a clear window into the vote tabulation process. This groundbreaking tool gives the public access to view the same ballot images verified by the voting system and reviewed by election judges, reinforcing El Paso County’s commitment to openness and accuracy in every election.
“The launch of the CIVERA Ballot Verifier reflects our continued commitment to election transparency and voter confidence,” said Steve Schleiker, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder.“This tool allows the public to see exactly how ballots are reviewed and verified, reinforcing the integrity of the process here in El Paso County.”
The new system will include results from the 2024 elections and all future elections going forward. This tool is part of a broader initiative by the Clerk and Recorder’s Office and Civera to ensure election processes are not only secure and accurate, but also visible and understandable to the public.
“I founded Civera because of my frustration with the status quo around government transparency,” said Adam Friedman, the CEO of Civera. “In most US states, ballots are not public record. However, ballots are one of the most important records to be public, because they are the actual proof that those elected to govern us deserve to be there. The Ballot Verifier is a platform to allow any resident, from the comfort of their own home, to review that proof, and assure that every vote was counted, and every voter’s voice was heard.”
The launch of Ballot Verifier is the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s latest step in their mission to cultivate trust, transparency, and confidence in election operations. Voters, students, researchers, and community stakeholders can all benefit from this access to precinct-by-precinct results, alongside verifiable ballot images that are ADA accessible.
