Length of Assignment

Length of election judge assignments range from one day to five weeks. The election judge job may begin as early as the month prior to the election, continuing through Election Day or longer.


Election Judges are paid an hourly wage. Rates may vary depending on job functions.

Election Judge Positions Available

Ballot Runner
Collect ballots from secure 24/7 drop-off locations and Voter Service and Polling Centers.

Phone Bank Representative
Provide customer service and information to voters by responding to routine inbound phone inquiries.

Ballot Processing Judge Positions
Ballot Intake — Ballot sorting. Scanning undelivered ballots.

Signature Review — Identifying signature discrepancies.

Pre-Processing — Removal of ballots from envelope. Ensuring there are no major tears and/or blemishes on ballot that would hinder the counting process.

Data Entry Clerk
Provide administrative data entry support to the Elections Department through the statewide database ensuring accuracy and adhering to department rules and regulations.

Election Judge Positions

Voter Service and Polling Center Judge
Assist in daily operations of Voter Service and Polling Centers, including registering voters, voter address changes, issuing ballots, instructing voters to complete and sign applicable forms, and comply with election laws and rules.

Outdoor Ballot Box Attendant/Curbside Judge
Assist in the orderly voter flow at 24/7 secure ballot drop-off locations on Election Day.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

  • Employees are responsible for their own transportation to work site(s) as assigned
  • May be required to lift office supplies
  • Duties are performed primarily in an office environment; however, some employees may be asked to drive during the course and scope of their duties
  • At times, staff may be required to travel to training and/or meetings or work additional hours
  • Employees may be dispatched to other office facilities throughout the work day or to other locations throughout the County
  • Some night and weekend work may be required

Required Skills

  • Teamwork and accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and shift priorities and schedules as needed
  • Attention to detail

Preferred Skills

  • Typing speed of 30 WPM (for particular job assignments)
  • Moderate computer proficiency desired, but not required for all positions


  • United States citizen
  • Registered to vote in Colorado
  • Depending on the position, must be registered with a major political party
  • Attend required training(s) – training time is paid
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required (unless still in high school)
  • Sworn as deputy of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office to discharge the duties conveyed by statute
  • Ability to follow rules and regulations as outlined in procedure manuals
  • Adhere to ethical standards of conduct
  • Must be punctual, detail-oriented, organized, cooperative, flexible, and able to follow instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with County staff and public in person and/or by phone
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to a computer, 10-key calculator, telephone, copy machine, scanner, and printer (for particular job assignments)
  • Must pass conditional post-offer background investigation and motor vehicle check (as appropriate to the assignment)
  • Ability to work various shifts and times; overtime and weekend hours may be required
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and provide proof of an appropriate level of personal vehicle insurance (for particular job assignments)
  • Must certify in writing that certain Election Judge qualifications will be met
