Ballot Access for El Paso County Candidates

The El Paso County Clerk & Recorder’s Office oversees ballot access for candidates interested in running for County elected offices, including Assessor, Clerk & Recorder, Commissioner, Coroner, Sheriff, Surveyor and Treasurer.

Primary Ballot

Political Party Candidate Nomination – Primary Ballot

  1. Please contact your political party for more information regarding political party nominations and the assembly process.

Party Candidate Petition – Primary Ballot

  1. Candidates for political party nomination may also be placed on the Primary Election ballot by petition (CRS 1-4-801).
  2. No person who attempted and failed to receive at least ten percent of the votes for nomination of a political party assembly for a particular office shall be placed in nomination by petition of the political party for the same office (CRS 1-4-801).​

General Ballot

Minor Party and Unaffiliated Candidate Petition – General Ballot

  1. Candidates for minor political party or for partisan public offices who are unaffiliated may be nominated by petition (CRS 1-4-802).​

Write-In Candidate

Write-In Candidate – Primary or General Ballot

  1. A person who wishes to be a write-in candidate for an office in an election may do so by filing a Write-In Candidate Affidavit of intent (CRS 1-4-1101).​
  2. No person who has been defeated as a candidate in a primary election shall be eligible for election to the same office by ballot or as a write-in candidate in the next general election unless the party vacancy committee nominates that person (CRS 1-4-105).
