[El Paso County, Colo. – September 10, 2026] El Paso County citizens have until noon on Friday, September 18, to submit pro/con comments for County Question 1A on the November 3, 2026, ballot, for those comments to be included in the ballot issue notice (C.R.S. 1-7-901(4)).
County Issue 1A asks El Paso County voters whether to renew the County’s existing Public Safety Tax.
“Providing residents with an opportunity to submit comments in support of or opposition to a county ballot issue is an important part of an open and transparent election process,” said Clerk and Recorder Steve Schleiker. “The ballot issue notice allows voters to consider perspectives submitted by fellow El Paso County electors before making their own informed decision.”
Under C.R.S. § 1-7-901, comments must:
- Address County Issue 1A specifically;
- Clearly state whether the comment supports or opposes the issue;
- Be submitted in writing;
- Include the submitting elector’s signature; and
- Include the address where the elector is registered to vote.
Comments may be submitted by email to angieleath@elpasoco.com. Email submissions should include a signed letter or other signed document containing the required information.
Signed hard-copy comments may also be delivered to:
El Paso County Clerk and Recorder
Elections Department
Citizens Service Center
1675 W. Garden of the Gods Rd., Ste. 2202
Colorado Springs, CO 80907
All submissions must be received by noon on Friday, September 18. Postmarks do not determine whether a submission is timely.
The Clerk and Recorder’s Office serves as the designated election official for County Issue 1A. The office will summarize the eligible written comments received and include those summaries in the ballot issue notice mailed to El Paso County voters in accordance with Colorado law.
For questions regarding the submission process, please contact Angie Leath, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Elections Manager at 719-520-7325, or email angieleath@elpasoco.com.
