September 15, 2022 – The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has contracted once again with ClearBallot to conduct an additional audit of the 2022 Primary Election utilizing a service called ClearAudit — a respected post-election audit system that utilizes a digital process to verify elections results.
ClearAudit conducted a digital comparison of ballot images from the 2022 Primary Election to verify the results are accurate. By digitally tabulating another system’s ballots, ClearAudit provided a post-election audit that offers an independent comparison and generates an analysis of results. El Paso County was the first in the state to conduct a ClearAudit post-election audit beginning in 2020 for the Presidential Election. This office’s ongoing commitment to build trust and assurance in El Paso County voters comes at a cost of approximately $50,000.
“Our office had this audit conducted to provide one more level of transparency to voters. This audit is not required by state or federal law and is something I have done previously for the elections conducted in 2020 and 2021,” said Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman. “In addition to the two successful audits and a candidate requested recount already conducted for the 2022 Primary, we believe the ClearAudit process is another vital method to instill in voters even greater trust and confidence in our election system.”
The Clerk’s Office and the Canvass Board, appointees by both major parties, have already conducted and certified the pre-election Logic and Accuracy Test for both the June 28 Primary Election and candidate requested recount in addition to the forensic-based post-election Risk Limiting Audit (RLA) during the 2022 Primary. The Clerk’s Office passed each Logic and Accuracy test with 100% accuracy and the statewide RLA in the first round.
